Theories about love

I really enjoyed this book! It has a different taste to it; perhaps it is because of the time difference and what has happened over the years. The first book we read was Pride and Prejudice- the love was present yet it was almost absent among the characters. Meaning that Mr. Darcy did not evoke this feelings towards Elizabeth as did the other characters who were in love also, but this is because of how love was seen through society's eyes. Moving on, we began to read novels whose love story met obstacles, misinterpretations and had to work on things to be together.

Now with Jennifer Cruise's novel, Bet Me, the tharacters are different. From the discussion, we discussed how Min's friends are, the good and the bad. Liza seems to be more uptight and watchful of her friends, whereas Bonnie bases life like a fairytale. Possibly the characters are created this way to pose as a realistic view of some friends that anyone has. What I enjoyed most about this book was the food relation. I read this book before, but I did not consider the relation Cal and Min had about food. After reading this book and discussing the relation they both had to food I was amazed at the relationship. It is like a love hate relationship that Min has towards food and begins to feel towards Cal, that bad boy.

Then we spoke of the chaos theory, four stages of love and fairytale. I thought this was really interesting. After reading that blog about women on D2L and the whole princess thing and role of women writers, to the theories and Cyn being obsessed with the four stages. I found it to be a bit humourous because you have the roll of a guy who believes in this chaos theory. In the other books, there were no theories about love and the whole process of it, but this one had one. I agree with a few opinions that love is not based upon any theory, philosophy or any psychological stage. The situation and individual itself determines what the outcome of the relationship is. If it works, it works. If it does not work, it does not work.
