To continue the conversation in class about food in class, I think Min's love for food  is a symbolism of her love life. She wants the full life of happiness but she is always restricted by herself and those around her. With Cal pushing her it just symbolizes he wants the happiness n is pushing her to have it. Not just the food but love. And not just that but to be less restricted in life because he wants to bring out her true beautiful self. i think a lot of it has to do with the infatuation of her "soft" self. They fight a lot so i think it keeps him interested. On the other hand Cynthie pushes away food, and Cal doesn't force it on her symbolizing he never really cared about her and showing that she really isnt taht beautiful in the inside, rather more full of herself so he doesn't really need to talk up her confidence.

I thought it was interesting that we see 3 relationships come together, i think you could argue which one is worse, between tony and liza verses Min and Cal, Liza's a bitch and Tony is just a guy that follows her around, and with Min and Cal, there is so many underlying issues that it is so hard for them to be together. WIth one relationship theres nothing really going on, and with the other there is too much going on. We meet right in the middle with Roger and Bonnie, but i think that most of it is fantasy, they dont really know much about eachother but their hipnotized. i think that could be the most dangerous relationship becuase their putting so much into the relationship without knowing too much about eachother.. i think the most promising relationship though is Min and Cal's becuase at least they are genuinely getting to know eachother. I'm just worried about what Cynthie said about how he will get her something and it worried me because Cal could have felt this way about her and then ditched her. Its hard to tell whether or not she is lying. But i do think they wil work out

  1. I like the point you made about food reflecting Min's love life. I can totally food being symbolic to her love life and there are many examples in the book that go along with your point as well. Her mother stops her from enjoy food the way she'd like to but Min herself stops herself from enjoy love as much as she should.
