"perps" and victims

In class we were talking about the "perps" and victims in the book and we pretty much concluded what I have thought for a while, that almost everyone is both. I think it really is like a repeating cycle, once one person is abused they go on to abuse someone else. I don't think it will ever end unless Heathcliff miraculously changes and I highly doubt that! Or if Nelly ever changes which it doesn't seem like she does/will either! Everyone is so manipulative especially those two.
Going back to the domestic violence discussion I think I am going to dig in and tell how I feel about the different characters...With Heathcliff again he is manipulative, abusive verbally and physically to Isabella, Hindley, Hareton, Edgar, Nelly, Linton, and the dogs. He wants control over everything in his life, meaning pretty much everyone anywhere near him. For example he wanted the two kids (Linton and Hareton) just so he could control them and with his son, gain control of the Linton's estate. Hindley on the other hand wants control over his family and Heathcliff but drinks far too much to really have control even over himself. Also he abuses his family so much, mostly his son who he almost kills! Edgar wants control over just Catherine and then Cathy when the first dies. He wasn't really abusive, he just wanted his family protected and to himself, but Heathcliff ruined his happiness. Catherine was verbally and physically abusive almost as much as Heathcliff himself. She just wanted everything her way, when she wanted it. Isabella wasn't all that much abusive more abused and taken advantage of. Hareton just seems like a misunderstood boy who never really had a chance to become more, while Linton on the other hand is a spoiled boy even though he lives with Heathcliff. He's very sickly and uses that to his advantage with everyone especially Cathy. Cathy is spoiled also but very naive. Lastly Nelly is again manipulative and uses every situation to her advantage and amusement. She also definitely likes to challenge the system or better yet her "place" in society.
Lastly I just wanted to exclaim over how Catherine and Isabella just randomly became pregnant, with no warning! This author seems to rather enjoy just randomly throwing things into the plot!
